Why?
Financial security is the key to obtaining and maintaining stable housing. Families can only achieve their housing goals through steady and fulltime employment. Yet, for families with young children, childcare must be addressed before parents can even apply for jobs, go to interviews and begin employment. This program deepens our support for families attempting to transition out of homelessness by assisting them with the cost of childcare. Providing support in the specific area of childcare will enable families to secure and maintain jobs, thereby helping break the cycle of poverty and homelessness.
Having reliable transportation is another crucial aspect of maintain steady and fulltime employment. In order for families to get their children to school or childcare, and to get themselves to work from our host congregations, their cars become imperative. However, for many of our families the same unexpected car costs that we all inevitably face, seem insurmountable. Their cars experience issues as small as oil changes, or a new battery, all the way up to significant repairs. The Freedom to Work program assists families in paying for these costs in order to help them obtain and maintain their employment. Assisting with some of the cost of vehicle maintenance would go a long way in helping our families stabilize and continue to thrive.
